8/31--8th Grade

Today we began by taking the class procedures quiz. The grades for this quiz will be posted in class tomorrow. After the quiz, students took a grammar preassessment. The data acquired from this assessment will help me to develop a better understanding of what areas to teach this trimester. The 8B class had time to work on their "reading and writing" slips on the cabinets. 8A will hopeful get to this tomorrow.

Due tomorrow...
-Book order form due with check or cash ($25.50 for To Kill a Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men, Taming of the Shrew, and The Book Thief)
-Rough draft of review poem. TYPED.

Upcoming deadlines...
-Memoir packet reading due 9/2
-Final draft of review poem due 9/6

8/31--7th Grade

Today we began by taking the class procedures quiz. The grades for this quiz will be posted in class tomorrow. After the quiz, we took time to finish organizing our English binders. You should have all of your tabs labeled and in the following order:
  1. Course Paperwork
  2. Weekly Calendars
  3. Trimester Notes
  4. Handouts (this unit)
  5. Handouts (past units)
  6. Grammar
  7. Vocabulary/Roots
  8. WordMasters
We finished out the class period by setting goals for ourselves in the areas of reading and writing, and by reading over a couple sample Bio Poems. You should be working on your Bio Poem this evening and tomorrow night, as the rough draft should be brought with you to class on Friday. I'd like this draft to be TYPED.

Upcoming deadlines...
-Bio Poem rough draft due 9/2

8/29--8th Grade

I missed you guys!

Today we practiced moving our desks between the discussion setup and the group work setup. We also got a chance to checkout new features of our classroom, and even win a few E-Bucks. Also, I hope you took the time to check your mailbox, as I passed back your 7th grade fiction stories. These grades will be the first grade of trimester one.

Remember to bring your binder, dividers, loose leaf paper, notebook, and a pen or pencil to class tomorrow!

8/29--7th Grade

Today we met briefly, and I got a chance to talk with you about some of your likes and dislikes about English as well as some of your favorite books. I look forward to getting to know more about you as writers, readers and thinkers this school year!

One Week Left!

With only one week remaining until the beginning of a new school year, I find myself bent over boxes in my classroom. I'm unpacking books, hanging new posters, and printing handouts for the first day of school. For those whom I have yet to meet, welcome to Washburne, and we're looking forwarding to having you in class! For those troublemakers whom I know very well, can't wait to have you back either. I hope you've all been reading, writing, and having fun this summer.

Enjoy your final week!
