8th Grade--8/31

Today we took our first comprehension quiz on Of Mice and Men. We spent the rest of the class discussing the following questions together in reference to the first chapter of the book, and we also addressed student questions and observations about the text thus far.

7th Grade--8/31

Today we worked in small groups and then as a larger group to come up with a list of peer editing guidelines. We'll use this list for all of our peer editing going forward. Before beginning peer and self editing on student poetry, we discussed things to look for in this assignment specifically and ways in which you can edit a poem. Students had the rest of the period to self and peer edit their poems.

8th Grade--8/30

Today students spent the first half of the period peer and self editing their review poems. Final drafts of these poems are due tomorrow.

In the second half of class, we went to computer lab #2 where Mr. Selgrat reviewed computer usage procedures and helped you to set your logins up.

7th Grade--8/30

Today we did an activity to practice being clear, descriptive, and specific in our writing. Next, we did a speed writing activity to generate ideas for our introductory poem. Students had the last fifteen minutes of class to write their introductory poems, and then we ended class by sharing 1-3 lines from our poems with the class.

8th Grade--8/29

Today we began class by taking a quiz to review classroom procedures. After the quiz, students took a preassessment for trimester #1's grammar unit. We set goals in the areas of writing, reading, student skills, grammar, and vocabulary, and we finished class by receiving our Of Mice and Men texts and discussing annotation procedures for this novel.

7th Grade--8/29

Today we began class by taking the classroom procedures quiz. After the quiz, students took the grammar preassessment for trimester #1. We finished class by setting goals for ourselves in the areas of writing, reading, student skills, grammar, and vocabulary.

Today we reviewed the syllabus to jog our memories about classroom procedures. After this review, students organized their English binder and got a start on the review poem assignment in their writer's notebooks.

Today we reviewed the syllabus and expectations for the class. Please make sure that you are familiar with these procedures; you will have a quiz on them tomorrow. After discussing the syllabus, students had the remainder of the period to organize their English binders. If you did not finish this, you will have time to finish it during class tomorrow.
