8th Grade--9/23

Today I passed back my corrections on your This I Believe second drafts. I then called people up in groups depending areas of need and concern, and I helped answer questions about my comments. Lastly, I told students that for the final draft (due on Monday) I expect you to include the following elements:

Please remember to bring two copies of the final draft since you are doing a podcast on Monday, and you will need something from which you can read.

Due Monday...
-Final draft of your This I Believe essay

Long term deadlines...
-Read pgs. 38-83 in OMAM for Tuesday
-Ten spelling words for trimester #1 due on 9/30
-This I Believ podcast due on 9/30

AQD= Analyze your quote directly

Usually this means that you are not staying focused on your quote during analysis. Also, you may need to use language from the quote in your analysis if your are not already doing so.

RTT= Relate to thesis

This means that you aren't connecting the analysis in your body paragraphs back to the overall message of your thesis.

WC= Word choice

This means that the word you are using is either overly casual, not being used correctly, or could be replaced by a stronger and more sophisticated word.

TS= Topic sentence

This either means that there is no topic sentence present or that it needs some serious rethinking

VSS= Varied sentence structure

This often means that you're using too many simple sentences in a row.

AWK= Awkward wording

Reword this section for more clarity.

FRAG= Fragment

This is not a sentence, dude.

SP= Spelling

This word is not spelled correctly

Q=Quote

Used as shorthand when I mean to say "quote"

BP=Body Paragraph

Used as shorthand when I mean to say "body paragraph"

CVT=Consistent Verb Tense
Verb tense should be consistently present tense or past tense unless you are intentionally switching.
