Today we discussed the story "The Lottery", focusing on the elements of the story that made it frightening. We especially focused on the idea of starting out a horror story in a way that is not frightening at all, but a way that is, instead, comfortable and normal. We talked about slowly integrating abnormal elements until one reaches a horrific climax, and then made a list of common place locations and situations. From this list, students began writing their horror story.
