8th Grade--5/10

Today we took the grammar test on appositives, absolutes, and passive/active voice. After we finished that, students continued writing their science fiction story. We also discussed the essay prompts for Tuesday's essay test.

-Read packet #4 and answer questions NEW DUE DATE

Long term deadlines...

-SciFi Essay Test on 5/14 (5/16 for French students)

-SciFi Story Start due on 5/17

-May IR Log due on 5/29

-Final fiction due on 5/29

AQD= Analyze your quote directly

Usually this means that you are not staying focused on your quote during analysis. Also, you may need to use language from the quote in your analysis if your are not already doing so.

RTT= Relate to thesis

This means that you aren't connecting the analysis in your body paragraphs back to the overall message of your thesis.

WC= Word choice

This means that the word you are using is either overly casual, not being used correctly, or could be replaced by a stronger and more sophisticated word.

TS= Topic sentence

This either means that there is no topic sentence present or that it needs some serious rethinking

VSS= Varied sentence structure

This often means that you're using too many simple sentences in a row.

AWK= Awkward wording

Reword this section for more clarity.

FRAG= Fragment

This is not a sentence, dude.

SP= Spelling

This word is not spelled correctly

Q=Quote

Used as shorthand when I mean to say "quote"

BP=Body Paragraph

Used as shorthand when I mean to say "body paragraph"

CVT=Consistent Verb Tense
Verb tense should be consistently present tense or past tense unless you are intentionally switching.
