7th Grade--12/10

Today the students turned in their second drafts of their Hero's Journey expository essays for ungraded teacher feedback. Mrs. Malmed will return them on Wednesday, and they will have class time then to make revisions.

Then, the students took notes on a presentation about independent and dependent clauses. There are a few major points students should remember:
  • A dependent clause is a group of words that contains a subject and predicate and expresses a complete thought.
  • A dependent clause is virtually the same thing as an independent clause except that a dependent clause does not express a full thought.
  • Dependent clauses often begin with dependent marker words, such as after, although, as, as if, because, before, even if, even though, if, in order to, since, though, unless, until, whatever, when, whenever, whether, and while.

Students learned how to identify and combine dependent and independent clauses.
